Fighting with the Feelings

Brain: Not again!!! (annoyed)

Heart: I wish to run.  Run  away,  run into,  run for... I don't know,  may be run around the house. I just wanted to run. (sad face)

Brain: Who am I kidding?  With a protruding 8 month pregnancy belly,  What am I to run?  It's just the hormones playing with my emotions.

Heart: don't you see I'm upset?

Brain: There's no need to be.  Life's just perfect.  There's nothing to be worried about.  I'm happily eating away my favourite dishes cooked by mum,  sleep and watch TV as and when I want.  Literally relaxing.

Heart: Then why on earth am I feeling low?

Brain: Believe me it's just the pregnancy hormones.

Heart: hell! Why hormones why?! .  Why you do this to me?!! (weeps)

Brain: there you go again (face palm)

#Chennai flood

Its been over four days since I have been worrying about my husband's safety. We are expecting our first baby in another 45 days and there's no room for peace in my mind since 2 days as I have lost contact with him except for occasional SMS stating that he, our friends & family hez staying with are safe.
Of all the worries, what kept me positive was dedicated people volunteering to help those stranded in hip high water (probably more). Thanks to Facebook and Whatsapp for constant support and timely updates which has helped save a lot of lives.
Whats happening in Chennai today could happen to your city tomorrow.
A lesson to learn from this (other than the power of unity, of course) is that all your materialistic achievements, wealth and all that you thought was safe inside your house, your locker will perish, no matter where you are or who you are. Your EGO will one day melt away and life will teach you its biggest lesson the hardest way. You may either prepare for it or shed your selfishness; do that little bit to extend a helping hand to the needy. Its will at least give you peace of mind and possibly you will find joy in it too. Good luck.

Learning something new.

Old people and new technology do not gel! Proclaimed my angry son as I sat by the black glass-topped dining table; my reflection mocking my helplessness.
Just yesterday,  he bought me a new touch screen notepad so that I could chat with him after he moves to the US.
It was a mixed emotion when he handed me his latest gift,  the palm size computer - as I call it, for I knew that I was going to miss him. All my life my thoughts and actions revolved around him.  Cooking his favourite food, organising his stuffs,  running errands for him,  and wondering each moment about his transition from an infant sleeping in my arms to a young adult. How am I going to spend my days ahead all by myself?  Who will I cook for and wait till late night? Questions taunted me endlessly . I tucked my personal happiness under the overwhelming joy for my son who has achieved his career goal.  Ultimately,  for a mother,  the child's happiness and dreams are bigger than her own.
As my tears rolled down and touched the cheeks of my reflection,  I was brought back to the present.
I know I'm a little slow at learning things. After all I left college 30 long years ago.  We never had this kind of exposure this youth enjoy today. To me, these new gadgets are not as "user friendly" as they appear.  I needed some extra attention and coaching to understand its simple functionalities.
But that's not what upsets me.  It's my son's attitude.
I don't remember walking out on him when he failed to learn new words as a kid or when he could not tell the time from an analog clock or saying the multiples of seven error free.  I was always there for him; for every football match,  for every swimming lessons,  for each and every exams... Every time he took up a new hobby and left it half way,  I kept my hopes and encouraged him. Never once did I scold him for trying new things or acquiring new knowledge. Never was I angry at him for not knowing something.  Instead,  I would sit down with him and help him out with it.  Was that not enough?  Have I not been a good parent? Did I not teach him something important?  Patience. ?
Suddenly an ad that portraits a father-son relationship run in my mind which brought back a smile.  It's the new generation issue.  I cannot expect the patience I had with my elders from my new gen son.  His lifestyle, priorities and experiences are way too simpler (yet self centred)  than what it used to be for us.  Probably sacrifice,  care,  politeness, tolerance, empathy,  are all new to  him as this gadget is for me.  He will understand its true meaning only when he expects them from someone.  His child, maybe. Only time can teach few of the good lessons in life.

I was told that all the answers we seek  are within ourselves.  Wanting to experiment this  inbuilt search engine,  I once wandered into the deep corners of my mind. I found my inner me! It was surprisingly good to have met someone else in that loneliness. My virtual assistant,  She asked if she could help.  To put her to test,  I popped my toughest doubts .

Trial 1

Whom does God love more -  people who break their bones and work hard to get to their goals, or those who find refuge in believes and prayers &  expect to be blessed with good opportunities?

Inner me: What  would you choose?

Me: well, I believe, I can achieve success with hardwork.

Inner me: Why? Don't you believe in miracles?  Sometimes u just make a wish and  'wah la'  it comes true.

Me: But then it wouldn't be fair to those who try hard,  don't you think?

Inner me: What  makes you think so?   Everybody works hard.  Some like the woodpecker -  loud and clear,  and others like a duck in the pond - silent yet struggling to stay afloat.  Even  crane stands on a single leg for hours,  putting it's heart and soul into its job. All of them receive results of their job done.

Its true the Creator has made us all different.  Some appears to work hard and others may appear to be born lucky.  Like the tree that serves and shelters other living things; the beast that preys on animals; the rocks that lay motionless by the lake.  God created them all differently to serve different purposes.  This is how humans are too.  Our lives are different because we serve different purpose to the world. Some experiences turmoil  and others appear to simply sit back and enjoy the ride,  yet God loves everyone equally.  The difference is only in OUR eyes.

Fair enough,  I thought.

The first trial was a 3 star.  Satisfactory.  Time for another question.

Trial 2

Why do we experience happiness and sorrow? Can't it all be happy for all.
Can you imagine a life long summer or winter?  What's so fun about it?  Nothing at all.  It's the rain that reminds us the beauty of sunshine and it's the spring that tells us the intensity of winter.
Like the season changing - Croaching heat. And suddenly cool wind blows - just like life - sorrow or happiness, it keeps moving on - life is as dynamic as the universe is - life is as vast as the universe is - life is as complicated as the universe is - life is as infinite as the universe is....
